Short answer
-
Similarities: Both hardwoods – robust, durable, excellent for furniture.
-
Teak: harder , oil-rich , tougher ; becomes more beautiful over time (patina), very durable .
-
Acacia (Suar): Larger formats and wider selection possible, more diverse in color ; ideal for large slabs.
-
Care: No special care is required. Proper drying before production is essential to ensure the structure remains stable.

Classification
Acacia (often sold as Suar/Albizia) and teak are two of the most popular solid woods for coffee tables and tabletops. Both are excellent choices—the choice depends more on the look, size, use , and budget . The decisive quality factor is not "whether a small crack is visible," but whether the wood was professionally dried before production .

Hardness & Toughness
-
Teak is considered harder and tougher . Its high oil and wax content promotes dimensional stability and durability in everyday use.
-
Acacia (Suar) is also robust, more than adequate for residential use. Small hairline cracks are normal and cosmetic in solid wood, provided the wood is fully dried.

Formats & Sizes
-
Acacia/Suar boasts very large slab widths and lengths —ideal for tree trunk tables or striking sofa tables made from a single slab. The wood grows faster, offering a wider range of formats .
-
Teak is often found as unique root wood pieces (root tables, often with glass tops). Teak tables are also available, but the variety of very large formats is often smaller than with acacia/suar.

Color & Grain
-
Teak: From golden brown to dark ; develops a refined patina over time. The grain is rather calm, with a very high-quality appearance.
-
Acacia/Suar: spectrum from light to dark , lively pattern, striking annual rings – aesthetically versatile .
Oil content & climate resistance
-
Teak : Rich in oil , therefore very climate-resistant – uncritical under normal sunlight and conventional underfloor heating.
-
Acacia/Suar : Also stable and suitable for everyday use. For both, room air temperature of 40–55% RH is optimal.

Care & everyday life
-
Routine: Remove dust dry; remove stains with a slightly damp cloth.
-
Oil care: Apply a thin layer of oil 1–2 times a year, allow to soak in for 20–30 minutes, then polish dry .
-
Coasters in hot/humid conditions; wipe off moisture promptly.
-
Purchase note (important): Professionally dried wood prior to production (ask for wood type and target moisture content) = long-term structural stability . Fine drying cracks are then merely visual features , not functional issues.
Decision-making aid (short & practical)
-
Do you want very large tabletops? → Acacia/Suar usually offers a wider range of sizes .
-
Maximum durability/patina lover? → Teak (harder, richer in oil, becomes even more beautiful over time).
-
Color preference: Calm/golden brown → teak . Lively/high contrast → acacia/suar .
-
Maintenance effort: Both are low – it is important to dry them properly beforehand.
